OFFERING a taste of Buenos Aires in the heart of Henley, Cau in Hart Street is the place to be, writes Karen French.
We arrived on a rather wet Saturday evening and entered into a warm, high-energy and exciting environment.
Fully booked, the restaurant was absolutely buzzing and catered for couples, groups of friends and families. We received a warm welcome from Andre, Daniel and their team.
As we were shown to our table we walked through a modern, trendy and tastefully decorated space, passing open kitchens with many chefs busy preparing fabulous food from their delicious menu that embraces Buenos Aires cuisine and offering elaborate choices including traditional steaks and the famous Cau specialty cuts.
The biggest towering juicy burgers arrived at the table next to us — we were spoilt for choice!
For my starter I ordered a classic Spanish favourite, smoked haddock croquettes with a perfectly spiced sauce on the side — they were so tasty.
They also offered porcini mushroom and truffle or jamon and manchego croquettes, which I look forward to sampling on another day.
My companion David ordered the salt and pepper squid tossed in peppered flour, then crisped to perfection with chipotle mayo for a little Latin kick.
For our main I chose medallions, the finest, most succulent cuts of lomito, filleted from the centre and grilled, served with peppercorn sauce and a tomato side salad lavished with a delicious vinaigrette.
David chose the asado de chorizo, sirloin steak in a churrasco marinade of smoked paprika, ajà molido, garlic and parsley, which was perfectly cooked with an explosion of flavours.
Our main dishes partnered well with a fabulous red wine named Fancy Pants Garnacha, 2014 Cariñena Spain with juicy black fruits and a touch of spice, soft and full-bodied. There is so much to offer at Cau in Henley, such an amazing adventure for all to share — from lunch, dinner or even just to call in with friends and enjoy one of their sharing plates with a specialty cocktail or the Cau G&T with Portobello Road Gin, tonic, pink grapefruit, juniper berries, lemon and lime zest. Delicious food, fabulous cocktails together with Andre and Daniel’s energetic friendly team, this is a restaurant that has it all!
