Runners gear up for return of Maidenhead Half Marathon on Sunday

03:32PM, Friday 24 October 2025

Runners are gearing up to take part the Maidenhead Half Marathon this Sunday, as it returns following a four-year break.

The event is in support of Alexander Devine Children’s Hospice Service and is being revived by RunThrough, who have taken over its organisation.

Around 2,500 runners are expected to take on the half marathon.

RunThrough began discussions with the RBWM council last year to explore options to bring the event back.

With a shared ambition to bring back the event, while minimising disruption and celebrating local participation, all parties agreed on a route that ‘showcases the best of Maidenhead’, organisers stated.

The half marathon will start and finish at The Moors, and the fully-closed-road course will take runners on a scenic and fast two-lap route, featuring a mix of town centre sections and countryside stretches.

The course is ‘perfect for both first-timers and experienced runners chasing a personal best’, they added.

The running events company has worked closely with local authorities, running clubs and community groups as part of its work on the event.

The event will help raise awareness and funds for Alexander Devine, which provides specialist care and support to children with life-threatening and life-limiting conditions and their families across the area.

A spokesperson for Alexander Devine said: “We are delighted to be the Charity of the Year for the returning Maidenhead Half Marathon, and [are] grateful to everyone who has come together to make this such a great event on the calendar.

“Our mission is simple: to reach out to every child and family who needs us, and the vital funds that this will raise will allow us to do that.”

There will be several road closures in place during the event to ensure the safety of runners and spectators.

These will be:

  • Ray Mill Road East – 8:30am–11:00am
  • Ray Park Avenue – 8:30am–11:10am
  • Ray Mead Road – 8:30am–11:30am
  • Sutton Road – 8:30am–11:30am
  • School Lane – 8:30am–11:45am
  • B4447 – 8:30am–12pm
  • Maidenhead Road – 8:30am–12:10pm
  • Cookham Road – 8:30am–12:20pm
  • Ray Mill Road West – 8:30am–12:30pm
  • Blackamoor Lane – 8:30am–12:30pm

The roads will reopen behind the last runner once safe, and residents are encouraged to come and support participants along the route.

Anyone with any queries about road closures or access can contact RunThrough via info@runthrough.co.uk

Each runner will receive a unique themed medal, chip-timed results, free race photos, and post-race goodies.

Matt Wood, co-founder of RunThrough, said: “Maidenhead is a fantastic town to host a half marathon.

“The course offers a brilliant mix of speed and scenery, and with the support of Alexander Devine, this event is not just about achieving personal goals but also about giving back to the local community.

“We’ve worked closely with the council and local stakeholders to bring this event back after a few years away, and we can’t wait to see thousands of runners take to the streets once again.”

Limited entries are still available via the website www.runthrough.co.uk for anyone who wishes to take part.
