A CHARITY tennis tournament raised more than £3,200.
Annie Abbey-Quinn, of Blackmore Lane, Sonning Common, organised the friendly competition in aid of the Riverside Counselling Service in Henley.
The charity provides affordable counselling to adults and young people.
The doubles tournament was played at courts provided by Mary Jane Pugsley, Petra Martin, Jane Batting, Linda Nelson, Emma Lerche-Thomsen, Katherine Cooper, Hilary Andrews and Joanne Grey.
After the matches more than 80 women gathered at Mrs Abbey-Quinn’s home for lunch and the presentation of medals.
The lunch was made by Jo Roberts with homemade meringues and brownies provided by Christine Sweeney and strawberries by Andrew Cardy.
Mrs Abbey-Quinn thanked the volunteers who helped the day run smoothly, including Sanchia Mansfield, Sheridan Carr, Lucy Montgommery and Gordon Edwards.
She added: “The beautiful weather contributed to what was a truly wonderful day, raising money for such a good cause.
“I am delighted by the amount raised and the overwhelming support from everyone.”
Teresa Johnson, who chairs the Riverside Counselling trustees, said: “People in their late teens might want to come along but they have not got much money so we try to see them at a low cost.
“This money will help us provide the service for someone who might not be able to pay. We don’t pay our counsellors as they are all volunteers but we have to rent rooms.
“These fund-raisers are all about helping to pay for premises, supervision and supporting the young people who can’t afford to pay.”
