A HOUSE could be built in the grounds of a former café and restaurant in Peppard.
RG9 Living, of London, has applied for planning permission to demolish outbuildings next to the former Daisy’s at the Dog café, which closed late last year.
It then plans to build a two-storey, three bedroom house on the site and to create two parking spaces in a courtyard at the front of the property, which would be accessed via the lay-by off the B481.
The application says: “The buildings on the application site are now little used. The modern shed and lean-to are unsightly. The single storey store has some character but is in a very poor state of repair.
“The operators of Daisy’s coffee shop rent the property. It is clear that the café does not need the outbuildings or the open space contained in the application site.
“Bringing a modest new home into the village, which follows the existing pattern of building and uses traditional materials, will overwhelmingly benefit both the conservation area and the village as a whole.”
South Oxfordshire District Council planning officer Marc Pullen has advised the company that the site is likely to be acceptable for residential development.
He said: “Subject to final details and design, the proposal is likely to constitute an appropriate form of development which relates well to the site and its surroundings.”
The café was opened in March last year by Beverly Dobson who moved the business from the Herb Farm in Sonning Common.
It was previously Ristorante Reno, which opened in February 2014 but closed eight months later. Before that it was the Ruchetta restaurant for a number of years. Originally, it was the Dog Inn.
The district council will make a decision by April 11.
