Competition is hot at 10km

ALMOST 500 runners took part in the 32nd Wargrave 10km race in blazing sunshine on Sunday.

Magician Paul Daniels, who lives in the village, officially started the event for the sixth year running.

He blew an air horn despite having one hand bandaged following an operation.

The race, which is organised by the Wargrave Runners, started at the recreation ground in Recreation Road and the runners followed a circular route through Crazies Hill and Cockpole Green.

The winner was Matthieu Ribault, of Thames Valley Harriers, with a time of 34 minutes and 36 seconds.
