THE Henley detachment of the Oxfordshire Army Cadet Force held its annual Christmas dinner and awards ceremony.

There were six awards, which acknowledge the determination, commitment and progressions of the cadets over the past year.

Best recruit was awarded to cadet Sebastian Petit, who joined the Henley detachment this year and has made the most progress towards his cadet training.

Best cadet was awarded to Lance Corporal Callum Lee for his high attendance at events such as battlefield tours and STEM camp as well as performing above the expected standard in his cadet training.

Best non-commissioned officer was Colour Serjeant Grace Iveson, which is awarded to the best leader.

She has completed the highest course available to army cadets, the master cadet course, which tests all aspects of leadership and fieldcraft. She was also appointed cadet to the Lord-Lieutenant of Oxfordshire this year.

Best shot was awarded to cadet Poppy Cooper for successfully demonstrating the marksmanship in order to achieve the highest scored group on an air rifle of 5.5m range as a part of her basic training.

Best drill and turnout was awarded to cadet Olivia Garland for her consistent immaculate uniform and highest attendance at detachment and company events.

The Fearn Shield was awarded to Serjearnt Patrycja Gwiazda for providing the most support to the detachment commander.

Congratulations to all the award winners and a massive well done to the cadets for a fantastic and successful 2022. Merry Christmas.

The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation for 12- to 18-year-olds sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Defence. It provides a challenging and varied syllabus based on military themes.

The Henley Army Cadet Force parades every Wednesday from 6.45pm to 9pm at the Drill Hall in Friday Street and is currently looking for new cadets and adult volunteers. Feel free to come along and experience something new.
