Henley Army Cadets

Henley Army Cadets

CADET Colour Serjeant Grace Iveson, of the Henley detachment, Army Cadet Force, has been promoted to Cadet Regimental Serjeant Major.

This is the highest rank you can achieve in cadets and there is only ever one per county so she is now the highest-ranked cadet in Oxfordshire — a rare but well-deserved achievement.

As well as her promotion, RSM Iveson has recently completed her Master Cadet course.

This is a five-day intensive course at our national cadet training centre and is the highest level of training that can be achieved by an army cadet.

The Henley detachment would like to congratulate RSM Iveson on her achievements and we look forward to seeing her in her new role.

We say farewell to Cadet Company Serjeant Major Charlie James.

He has been with the unit for six years and has progressed through the ranks and training.

CSM James has excelled in his Duke of Edinburgh’s Awards (bronze, silver and gold) and is awaiting his residential trip before going to Buckingham Palace.

The Henley detachment would like to wish him all the best for the future.

Henley Army Cadets have a busy summer ahead, with some cadets taking a week-long trip to France to visit Normandy, Ypres and the Menin Gate to remember all those who fought and lost their lives in the Second World War.

Some cadets will be completing their community engagement section by assisting the show stewards at Woodcote Steam Rally.

Our company weekend in June will teach cadets weapon-handling skills and how to advance towards the enemy on a paintball range. This is preparation for our annual camp in the summer. This year’s camp is a two- week battle camp, where cadets will deploy into the field for an exercise-based scenario using low-level tactics similar to the army.

The Henley detachment look forward to their busy summer.

The Army Cadet Force is a national youth organisation for 12- to 18-year-olds sponsored and supported by the Ministry of Defence. It provides a challenging and varied syllabus based on military themes.

The Henley Army Cadet Force parades every Wednesday from 7.15pm to 9.30pm at the Drill Hall in Friday Street and is currently looking for new cadets and adult volunteers. Feel free to come along and experience something new.
