Tractors take people to farm service

ABOUT 35 people were taken by tractor to a Remembrance Sunday service by tractor.

Eighteen tractors were driven from the New Inn in Kidmore End to Coombe End Farm in Goring Heath.

At the farm, which is owned by Jon Hatt, flags reading “Lest We Forget” with images of a poppy and silhouettes of soldiers were put up on tractors and a cross with soldiers’ helmets was displayed.

The participants listened to the Last Post on the radio and the war poem For the Fallen by Laurence Binyon was read.

The passengers made donations totalling about £160 for the Royal British Legion’s Poppy Appeal. Paul Jenkins, who has run the event for 15 years, said: “It went very well. It’s always very special and the atmosphere was fantastic. Everyone was so happy to get on the tractors and thanked me for organising it.”

This was followed by two more tractor runs and the day ended at the Black Horse pub in Checkendon for a barbecue.
