THE loneliness of middle-aged males is something of a hot topic of late, and the subject is addressed in a new black comedy, out today at the Regal Picturehouse in Henley.

In Friendship (15), Craig Waterman (Tim Robinson) and weatherman Austin Carmichael (Paul Rudd) are involved in a bromance gone awry.

Craig has fallen into a rut, sitting in the same chair each night, living with his wife, Tami (Kate Mara) and his son, Steven (Jack Dylan Grazer).

Where Austin has an established group of buddies, socially inept Craig tags along but is out of sync with the crowd. However, Austin warms to him and their relationship flourishes — initially…

Written and directed by Andrew DeYoung, the film has a running time of one hour and 41 minutes.

Directed by Polly Steele and based on the bestselling book by Niall Williams, Four Letters of Love (12A) is a tale of destiny and romance.

Twelve-year-old Nicholas (Fionn O’Shea) lives with his parents and when his father finds God, quits work and takes up painting, chaos ensues.

Meanwhile, Isabel (Ann Skelly) is sent to a convent school but her life is made miserable and she escapes.

As both families face miracles and tragedies, will true love find its way?

The film also stars Helena Bonham Carter, Pierce Brosnan and Gabriel Byrne and has a running time of one hour and 50 minutes.

An all-star line-up led by Rihanna (Smurfette) provides the voices of animated musical Smurfs (U).

When Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is kidnapped by evil wizards Razamel and Gargamel, the Smurfs have to enter the real world to try and save him.

The film has a running time of just over an hour and a half.
