Shiplake back to winning ways in Plomer Cup

HENLEY ran out 107-83 winners in their Oddfellows Triples League match at BURGHFIELD on Sunday.

The visitors won on three rinks and lost on two, to secure 10 league points to the hosts’ four.

Dave Wilson, with Karen Wakeling and Norman Daniells, outplayed the opposition as they were 24-4 up after 11 ends and ran out 26-26 winners. Kevin Browne, with Sally Daniells and John Munnelly, did not score until the fourth end but were only 8-7 down at the 10th. Although they fell further behind by the 13th end at 12-7 they then scored on every end, including a six on the 17th to run out 20-12 winners.

Steve Sullivan, with Romy Painter and Joan Edwards, were the highest winning rink. Although they were level after four ends at 8-8, they then scored heavily throughout the remaining match to run out 30-18 winners.

Andy Scott, with Jo Wilson and Hylton Jenkins, were behind 19-4 after 11 ends. Although they then scored consistently on every end they could not make up the difference going down by two shots, 20-18. Peter Borsberry, with Angelika Crisa and Nigel Bridges, were behind throughout the first 13 ends at 14-6. Although they picked up two and three shots at the 15th and 18th end, they could not catch up and went down 17-13.

SHIPLAKE narrowly lost out in a four rinks Oddfellows Triples League match against visitors READING on Wednesday of last week. Each side won on two rinks but Reading had the edge, 63-57. Shiplake’s best performing triple was that of Margaret Bullock, Jeff Harris and Wendy Cross who won 22-10. Pete Leverett, Jane Ward and John Townley were the other winners, 17-11.

On Sunday, SHIPLAKE defeated visitors DIDCOT 87-67 in a Plomer Cup match. Shiplake won on three of the five rinks while a tie was also recorded.

Margaret Bullock, Jeff Harris and Graham Kennedy were two shots to the good with one end to play but then lost two shots to tie the game 15-15. Janet Townley, Ruth Copp and Tony Reid recorded an impressive 28-7 while David Lloyd, Jean Buckett and John Townley won 19-8. Pete Leverett, Keith Walters and Wendy Cross won 17- 11.

WARGRAVE went down to an 81-57 defeat in their Kennet League clash at home to WOKINGHAM B on Tuesday of last week. The result saw the visitors claim 12 league points to Wargrave’s two.

The following evening WARGRAVE ran out 69-55 winners in a friendly against THREE MILE CROSS, with both sides winning two rinks each. Wargrave’s winning rinks were Ian Robbins, Heather Annetts and Peter Burton, 27-10, and Tony Annetts, Brian Turnbull and Norah Holder, 17-13.
