TEN SHIPLAKE ladies recently competed in Top Club, a county-wide knock-out competition, where they defeated a team from KIDLINGTON AND WOODSTOCK 74-51.
Shiplake were led by Jane Ward who played in the singles match winning 21-8. Sandra Gough and Elaine Robinson lost the doubles 19-11 while Sue Pitcher, Jean Buckett and Wendy Cross won the triples 20-10. The rinks game saw Shiplake’s Lorraine Walters, Marilyn Mowatt, Ruth Copp and Janet Townley win 22-14. The next round is played later this month.
SHIPLAKE ran out 85-71 winners in their Oddfellows Triples League clash at HURST on Wednesday of last week.
Pete Leverett, Sylvia Blackmore and Jim Bland won 25-6 while Dave Ward, Elaine Robinson and Jane Ward triumphed 16-15.
Last Saturday SHIPLAKE lost out in a four rink triples friendly at LONG CRENDON.
Laurie Mowatt, Margaret Bullock and Sylvia Blackmore dropped two shots on the last end to tie their game 18-18 while the other three rinks ended in defeat for the visitors.
CAVERSHAM ran out 83-62 winners in their Plomer Cup match at SHIPLAKE on Sunday. Shiplake’s only winning team was that of Marilyn Mowatt, Dave Bullock and Jim Bland, 20-13.
WARGRAVE went down to a 55-39 defeat at SUTTONS on Wednesday of last week in a friendly match.
Tony Annetts, Stan Crooks and Norah Holder drew their rink 16-16. Wargrave took an early lead, after which Suttons won six out of the next seven ends, bringing the score to 15-23, with three ends to go. Wargrave won the next two ends and Suttons won the last end, bringing the scores level.
Wargrave’s winning rink was that of debutant Dave Stonham, Heather Annetts and John Tegg who triumphed 18-12. This was Dave’s first match for Wargrave and he took the lead on the 11th end and won enough of the remaining ends to take the win.
Wargrave’s losing rink, that went down 27-5, was that of Maurice Freeman, Jim Thompson and Vic Waite.
On Saturday WARGRAVE went down to a 57-32 friendly defeat at home to BURNHAM.
The rink of with Chez Annetts, Barry Holder and Brian Turnbull went down to a 21-4 defeat while Maurice Freeman, Stan Crooks and Norah Holder won 19-9. Tony Boffin, Heather Annetts, John Tegg also had a tough game, losing 24-9.
