Couple spruce up rundown hotel

A COUPLE who used to work for celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal have taken over the Miller of Mansfield in Goring.

Nick and Mary Galer have spent £75,000 refurbishing the former 18th-century coaching inn in High Street.

The pub and hotel was run down when they moved in and was due to be closed by South Oxfordshire District Council because the kitchen posed a health risk. The business now has a four-star hygiene rating.

Mr and Mrs Galer, who previously worked for two pubs in Bray that are part of Blumenthal’s Fat Duck Group, redecorated the restaurant, bar and courtyard and introduced a new menu.

Enterprise Inns owns the building but the couple are responsible for its upkeep. Mr Galer is head chef and his wife runs the front of house team.
