PEPPARD kayaker Sam Kirschstein Smith helped break an English junior record at the junior world championships in Szeged, Hungary.

Competing in two events — the K2 1,000 metres and K4 1,000 metres — Kirschstein Smith managed to get into the A finals in both crew boats.

In the K2 final he finished eighth with Ed Haws from Wey.

In the K4 with Haws, Magnus Gregory and Luke Harding the four finished sixth and in doing so broke the record at that distance in a time of 2 minutes, 58 seconds.
