Caversham Good Neighbours

Caversham Good Neighbours

AN afternoon tea party took place in Caversham to celebrate a not-for-profit organisation which commemorated its 60th anniversary on July 2.

More than 50 members of Caversham Good Neighbours, which offers transport for the elderly and disabled, attended the party at Caversham Golf Club.

Drivers, office staff, former staff and long-standing clients enjoyed tea, cake and sandwiches during the afternoon.

Alice Mpofu-Coles, the mayor of Reading, was in attendance and highlighted how the volunteers of the group are the pillars of the community.

The community initiative was started by a Caversham GP and the vicar of St Andrew’s in 1965 to ensure patients could get their appointments.

This year, the group has helped more than 75 people attend their medical appointments and social activities.

Sandra, a client who uses the service, said: “It is an excellent service with very friendly drivers. The office staff are lovely and all brilliant.

“We are very lucky to have this very important service. It has a good impact on my life, otherwise I’d be stuck at home.”
