Road shut by burst pipe set to reopen

A ROAD in Caversham is expected to be re-opened tomorrow (Tuesday) once a burst water main has been fixed.

Gosbrook Road has been shut from the Fox and Hound Pub to Caversham Library since last Friday when water flooded the street.

Contractors for Thames Water are repairing the damaged pipe and have brought in a vacuum excavator to try and speed up the process.

Traffic is being diverted along Falkland Road to Prospect Street, to access Church Street.

The road may be re-opened at first under temporary traffic signals. Reading buses has also been made aware of the closure.

A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to Caversham residents who experienced low pressure or no water last Friday (27 October).

“Our engineers identified a burst water mains pipe on Gosbrook Road and shut off the main to carry out the necessary repair over the weekend. During this time we re-routed water to ensure affected customers had water supply.

"The repair has now been completed and Gosbrook road is expected to re-open tomorrow on Tuesday 31 October."
