A PROFESSIONAL golfer visited Badgemore Park Golf Club in Henley for a charity day.
Catriona Matthew, a Scot who plays mainly on the US women’s golf tour, gave an hour’s clinic to members.
She also told anecdotes about her early career, shared golfing tips and answered queries from players about their game in a session hosted by Sky Sports correspondent Henni Koyack.
Matthew’s visit was part of a golf day to raise money for two charities, the Nomad youth and community project in Henley, which was chosen by ladies’ captain Maggie Stanley, and Action for ME, the choice of men’s captain Les Hines.
Mrs Stanley, who organised the day, said about 54 people played a round to raise funds. Mr Hines said: “My niece of 37 has suffered from ME for six or seven years. She has gone from a very able mother to being bedridden for hours on end, which is a real struggle. This is our second or third fundraiser so far this year.” Matthew, who has twice captained the European women’s team in the Solheim Cup against the USA, winning once, said: “It’s great to be at a lovely spot like this and to support two great charities.”
