Help with dementia

A PORTABLE multi-sensory activity kit has been donated to the Abbeycrest nursing home in Sonning Common.

The kit, provided by the Reading Abbey Rotary Club, contains a variety of memory games and aids designed to help those living with dementia.

The club had fundraised for kits for four nursing homes after it was successfully trialled in other care facilities.

The AMuSED toolkit was developed by emeritus professor Rachel McCrindle and Dr Esther Olorunda as part of a PhD at the University of Reading, exploring how technology can be used to improve quality of life for people living with dementia.

It is supported by research which shows a link between sensory stimulation and positive changes in behaviour and mood seen in those living with dementia.
