A FLOWER festival at St Leonard’s Church in Watlington kicked off the town&rsquos celebrations for the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Almost 30 organisations and individuals created displays on the theme of “celebrations” which were on show for three days.
They included tissue paper garlands made by pupils at Watlington Primary School, paintings of the Queen by children at the village pre-school and a teddy bears&rsquo picnic created by the Rainbow Corner Day Nursery.
There were other displays made by Watlington WI, the town&rsquos branch of the Royal British Legion and Watlington Methodist Church. Janet Vaughan, chairwoman of the St Leonard&rsquos Friends group, said more than 250 people attended the festival.
“It was a real community event,” she said. “It was so colourful and very impressive the way in which people had interpreted the theme.
“We had a golden wedding, a silver wedding, a decorated racing bike from the Tour de France and one on the Ashes with stumps and a cricket bat and ball.”
Visitors were served tea, coffee and home-made cakes.
The event raised more than £800 which will go towards a two-year project to repair stonework inside the church.
