A NEW rector for the parishes of Rotherfield Peppard, Kidmore End and Sonning Common has been inducted.
Rev James Stickings, 40, suceeds Rev Canon Graham Foulis Brown, who retired last year.
His induction ceremony was held at St John the Baptist Church in Kidmore End on Thursday last week.
Mr Stickings was born in Canada and spent time in America and Germany when he was growing up before settling in England at the age of 17.
He read history at university and was a choral scholar in his college choir, which he says gave him a lasting love of church music. Soon after graduating, he married his wife Gillian before spending three years living and working in Ghana, where she was brought up.
Their daughter was born in 2003, while he was a teacher at Bradfield College, near Reading.
He spent six years at the college and while there felt the need to explore the possibility of ordination.
The family moved to Ripon College Cuddesdon, near Oxford, for his theological training.
He was ordained as a deacon in 2012 and as a priest in 2013.
His curacy was at Holy Trinity, Headington Quarry, famous for being the parish church attended by author CS Lewis.
Rev Stickings enjoys cooking, listening to music, watching sport, reading and going for long walks.
He said: “I am passionate about commending the richness and integrity of the Christian way to our world and also about providing a warm welcome to any and all who want to explore it with us.
“I am also convinced that the church has an important role to play in serving local communities.
“I look forward to getting to know everyone over the weeks, months and years to come.”
