A FLOWER display and cake sale at All Saints’ Church in Peppard raised £633 towards the upkeep of the building.
Hundreds of people visited over the weekend to admire the arrangements, which were put together by the village’s flower guild and pupils from Peppard Primary School.
Red, white and blue garlands were placed on either side of the church’s lychgate and another spelling “E II R” ran across the top.
Worshippers raised more than £200 towards the cost of the flowers and Oxfordshire County Council also gave a small grant. There was also a raffle with prizes donated by VAG Motors of Caversham, Caversham hair salon Forresters and Carl Woods Butchers and the Bird in Hand pub, both in Sonning Common.
The main prize was a cake featuring a portrait of the Queen, which was made by villager Valerie Ross.
Co-organiser Barbara Chadwick said: “There were peaks and troughs but overall it was very well attended and we were amazed at how much we raised. It’s a great example of people pulling together and it’s moving to see how much people value their local church. It makes it worth all the hard work.
“It was lovely to see such strong community spirit, with everyone popping in to say hello. It reminds you just how many people in the village you know.
“There was a great feeling across the village. Everyone was smiling in their red, white and blue and they were really enjoying themselves.”
