TO celebrate the release of the film Saving Mr Banks (PG) starring Tom Hanks and Emma Thompson, the Regal Picturehouse in Henley has joined forces with the Henley Standard and Walt Disney Pictures to offer a fantastic prize in a Saving Mr Banks competition.
The prize includes a 50th anniversary copy of the original Mary Poppins film starring Julie Andrews on Blu-Ray, plus a pair of tickets to see the film at the Regal cinema.
Saving Mr Banks tells the heart-warming story of how Mary Poppins made it to the big screen, — and it certainly wasn’t straightforward! When Walt Disney’s daughters begged him to make a movie of their favourite book, he made them a promise — one that he didn’t realise would take him 20 years to keep.
In his quest to obtain the rights, Walt comes up against a curmudgeonly, uncompromising writer who has no intention of letting her beloved magical nanny get mauled by the Hollywood machine. But, as the books stop selling and money grows short, Travers reluctantly agrees to go to Los Angeles to hear Disney’s plans for the adaptation.
