OUR July report included the issues that we felt important and which we were chasing via the various authorities.
We are pleased to say that we can now remove three of those from the list because we have had success in getting the Friday Street slipway open (at last), the Pest House renovations are under way and South Oxfordshire District Council has promised to provide a “ladies only” toilet cubicle at the King’s Road car park lavatories.
Thank you to all who supported our lobbying on these matters — people power, properly harnessed, has won through again.
Our second Music on the Lawn event on August 13 was enjoyed by 175 members and guests at Remenham Club.
We are grateful to the committee of that club for allowing us to use their wonderful riverside facilities.
Guests danced to the music of Barry Owen and the Main Attraction and enjoyed the barbecue by Calnans of Watlington.
We weren’t blessed with the wonderful weather of last year but we didn’t get wet either.
Thank you to all supporting members. From the feedback received, I think all went home happy.
Our autumn talk will take place at Shiplake Memorial Hall on Thursday, October 12 at 7.30pm.
It will be given by renowned Oxford historian Liz Woolley on the subject of William Morris, Lord Nuffield, and his generosity.
Lord Nuffield gave away the equivalent of £1.5 billion in his lifetime, mainly to the furtherance of education in Oxford.
Tickets are available via our website, by calling 07860 145982 or by emailing info@thehenleysociety.org
