Survey ordered to find cause of pond’s falling water levels

WE have been going for six months now and seem to be growing in strength.
Our numbers continue to increase slowly and everyone seems to have a good afternoon each time we meet.
This month, Sue Green welcomed all present, including visitors.
So far nobody has come forward to become “tea lady” so the same appeal was made. Luckily, somebody will come forward.
Sue told us that those of us who wished to go to the harvest lunch next month should make sure their name is on the list and pay £6.
Arlene will then be able to order the food for us all to devour. If it is anything like the last time, we are in for a good feast.
There is no meeting of the book club this month as some of the roads in Caversham Park are being resurfaced which could cause problems with travel. Fingers crossed for next month.
Now the knitters have dollies to dress. Look forward to seeing them!
Sue introduced our speaker, Dorothy Cook, with her subject “Tales of a
midwife”. This turned out to be one of the best talks we have had in years (including those years with WI).
Dorothy started her talk with several extremely amusing tales, including one about a taxi driver who got into the delivery room because the patient would not let go of his hand.
His only comment was: “No more pregnant women in my cab.”
Dorothy also told us of some more serious stories, especially when she worked in Muscat and the problems cause by FGM. Enough said.
Thank you again, Dorothy, for an extremely entertaining afternoon. Please come back and tell us more.
We then had our cup of tea before the raffle was called. Our next meeting will be our harvest lunch on October 4. We meet in St Barnabas Hall in Emmer Green on the first Wednesday of the month at 2pm. Visitors are welcome.
