Henley 60-Plus Social Club

THE following is the chairman’s 2023 report for the Henley 60-Plus Social Club.

Since the kitchen re-opened after refurbishment membership has gone from strength to strength. Our numbers are now 116.

Lunches are incredibly popular, especially on Fridays when we have a roast dinner, and numbers can reach up to 40.

Our members are so appreciative of the club. We continue with bingo on Tuesdays and Fridays and craft club on a Tuesday with Anne Eggleton is very popular.

Visits from Badgemore Primary School are regular and recently they gave a performance of Toad Hall. Prizes for the Greener Henley school project were also presented. We also had a visit from a local ukulele band which proved very popular.

A big coronation party took place on May 5. Many thanks to Anne Manning for a £1,000 donation, which enabled us to make it a free event with lots of “extras”.

The members said it was “the best party ever”. They made crowns with Anne and Ken Fitt entertained.

Lettings at the club continue with use by the bridge club and Kumon maths.

A card game initiative is being undertaken by Michaela Clarke.

We are very grateful to Mo and Theresa for their help with bingo on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Huge thanks to our two managers, Jacqui and Rebecca. Also our chef, Craig, who continues to do an amazing job.

Thanks also to Phil for help with cleaning and keeping things washed up.

I would also like to give thanks to our treasurer Sue and secretary Liz, our committee members and HandyBus drivers as well as Henley Town Council whose continued support for this club and the senior citizens is greatly appreciated.

When the HandyBus was out of action recently it was appreciated how much the club relies on the service.

Thanks were expressed to the chairman for her continued hard work on behalf of the club.
