Arts Society Henley

THE Arts Society Henley’s next talk will be given by Dr Graham Jones on “The art of ceremonial music”.

He will explore the UK’s enviable reputation for arranging pomp and circumstance, looking at how the military prepares for major events such as the state opening of parliament, Remembrance Sunday, royal weddings and state funerals and visits.

Dr Jones started his career as a musician in the army. He retired in 2012 after nearly 40 years by which time he was senior director of music, Household Division, and director of music for the Coldstream Guards.

He is now a guest conductor, adjudicator, lecturer and recording consultant, music consultant to Henley Festival and artistic director of London International Band Week.

The lecture will take place at Henley Rugby Club on Thursday, June 20, starting at 2.15pm. Visitors are welcome and a donation of £10 is kindly asked for.
