Oxfordshire Dignity in Dying Group

PARLIAMENT goes on its summer recess in August but the Oxfordshire Dignity in Dying Group is to continue its campaign to see the Assisted Dying Bill passed by the Government.

Some members of the public may think that the Bill became law after passing its third reading in the House of Commons on June 20. However, we want to get the message out that there’s a whole new stage of the process as the Bill is now taken through the House of Lords by Lord Charlie Falconer.

We need members of the public in Oxfordshire to write letters to members of the Lords to tell them to support the Bill. It will go through a similar process that it did in the House of Commons and we need the public to once again get behind it to ensure it gets to the royal assent stage.

As a group, we meet via Zoom regularly, the next is on August 5, and we are heading to Banbury mid-August, where we’ve campaigned before, to reach the public and tell them about the next stage. The second reading in the House of Lords will take place on September 12.
