MORE than twice as many people have been convicted this year for drink-driving offences than last year in the Henley area, magistrates heard on Tuesday. Eighteen men and four women were convicted, compared with nine people the previous year. Supt Brian Mott presented the annual police report on licensed premises within the Henley division. He said there were now 116 licences in force, an increase of one on a year ago.
It was a very hectic start to the week for Mr Richard Long, who rents land from Culham Farm and runs a beef herd. In the early hours of Monday he found himself up to his waist in water helping with the birth of a calf. Unfortunately, the cow that was about to calve fell 12ft into a ditch which was full of water.
The largest single export order yet for its range of industrial pumps — more than 1,000 units, valued at £13,000 — has been received by Stuart Turner, of Henley. The order, from Qatar, brings the total number of Stuart Turner pumps sold in that country alone in the last five years to more than 8,000.
