ON Sunday afternoon an unfortunate accident befell an eight-year-old boy named New. He was out for a walk with two companions and visited the promenade when the lads essayed to jump the trunk of an old tree near the railway. Two safely got over but New hitched his foot and in falling broke a leg bone. He was subsequently conveyed to the infirmary, where he is progressing satisfactorily.

The annual confirmation service took place at Henley parish church on Sunday. The service was to have been taken by Dr Burge, the Lord Bishop of the Diocese, but unfortunately he was taken ill and other arrangements had to be made. The Right Rev Bishop Shaw, Archdeacon of Oxford, replaced him but the service was then two hours later than originally planned, which resulted in a decreased attendance.

The quarterly meeting of Shiplake Parish Council heard that repairs had been effected to Shiplake Rise Hill, Keep’s Lane and the road leading to Frieze Farm. The clerk was directed to write to the district council asking to have a pipe laid for the purpose of properly draining the road by the New Inn Pond, Binfield Heath.
