Hidden Henley

AFTER an item from Stonor was featured here recently, it has been pointed out to me that some of the old cottages in the village have an unusual emblem on them.

It features a mythical beast with four legs, wings and a tail as well as the head of some predatory animal, set within a shield and all contained within a rectangular red recessed plaque.

My research has drawn a blank on the significance of the design and odd creature. Does anyone have any information?
