AT a meeting of Henley Town Council, the town clerk said that the Superintendent of Police had written stating that the temporary refuges which had been placed in Hart Street and the Market Place had been of great assistance to drivers, pedestrians and the constables on point duty. He hoped that two permanent refuges would be erected and that the one in Market Place would be shifted about 2ft nearer the town hall.

At the council’s Mill Meadows committee it was reported that applications had been received to erect a refreshment stall with the sole right of supplying refreshments and tobacco. The committee recommended that the council advertise for tenders for such a right, the same to be for a period of three years.

The Union flag was displayed on the municipal buildings, the church tower and in other parts of the town in honour of the marriage of HRH the Duke of York. His Worship the Mayor wired the congratulations of the burgesses and schoolchildren were given a day’s holiday. The bells rang merry peals shortly after midday and in the evening.
