THE Berkshire MS (Multiple Sclerosis) Therapy Centre is using MS Awareness Week this week to highlight the treatments and therapies it provides for people with MS. The theme this year is the emotional impact of MS and there is a particular focus on how the centre supports the mental wellbeing of local people with MS.
Pippa Vincent-Cook, manager of the centre in Reading, says: “MS affects one in 600 people in the UK and we estimate that is 1,800 people across Berkshire.
“As well as causing physical symptoms such as mobility problems, fatigue and muscle weakness, MS can have a huge impact on someone’s mental health and wellbeing. Here at the centre we understand this and have a wide variety of treatments and therapies in place. This week is a real opportunity for our community to come together and use their voices to raise awareness of what life with MS is like.”
People attending the centre enjoy many different treatments and therapies to help improve their mental wellbeing, such as yoga, counselling, relaxation and meditation and complementary therapies. They also have access to treatments such as oxygen therapy, physiotherapy and exercise classes. The comfortable social area is a great place to come together and meet other people with MS.
If you have a diagnosis of MS and are looking for support, please call the centre on 0118 901 6000 or email ms@bmstc.org
We would also love to hear from you if you’d like to help fundraise for the centre, which receives no NHS funding and relies on grants and donations to provide the life-enhancing services.
