PUPILS in years 5 and 6 at St Mary’s School in Henley won a gold award, four silvers and seven bronzes in this year’s UK Maths Challenge. The challenge encourages mathematical reasoning, precision of thought and fluency in using mathematical techniques to solve interesting problems. Caroline Dowling, head of maths at the independent school, said: “I’m very proud of how hard our children worked. They approached the challenge with great maturity and concentration — and the results speak for themselves.”
