A GROUP of traders in Henley market place is fighting a plan to eliminate traffic from the centre of town. Shopkeepers have stuck “No Pedestrianisation” posters in their windows to make customers aware of the traffic-calming measures. And at a meeting this week they formulated a plan of action against the £80,000 trial scheme, which is due to be launched in January. Robert Ashworth, Oddbins, the Field, the Three Tuns and Gabriel Machin see no benefit in pedestrianisation.
A family returned home early from holiday to find themselves under a police helicopter as they were believed to be burglars. Residents reported loud noises and bright lights flashing over the Wootton Road area of Henley in the early hours of Wednesday as the helicopter swept the area but the search was called off when it became it obvious it was a false alarm.
More than 300 bales of hay, worth about £700, were destroyed in a barn fire at the weekend. Two fire crews from Henley, one from Goring and one from Buckinghamshire tackled yhe blaze in a Dutch barn at Oak Farm on the common at Maidensgrove.
