HELD somewhat earlier this year, the Wargrave and Shiplake Regatta on Saturday experienced frequent showers and a heavy downpour which delayed racing for 30 minutes. When the storm cleared peoople flocked to the scene in their hundreds and the late afternoon saw an attendance quite equal to previous years, although the river craft was very thin.

A committee of ladies and gentlemen, with Miss Letcher and Miss A E Maynard as honourable secretaries, went to a great deal of trouble to arrange a fete and fancy fayre on behalf of the funds of the Henley Nursing Association. It was feared that their efforts would have been in vain when on Tuesday evening a torrential downpour of rain fell but, fortunately, Wednesday — the day of the fete — turned out to be gloriously fine and the function was a great success.

A new telephone call office has been opened at the Reading Road post office in Henley. The fee for tuse of the call office will be 2d and it will be possible to communicate with any exchange or call office in the UK which has full trunk facilities upon payment of the appropriate additional fees.
