THE fate of Henley’s trial traffic scheme is to be decided no later than six months into the project. Members of Oxfordshire County Council’s highway sub-committee demanded a full review as one of its conditions in granting permission for the scheme last week. Traffic levels and pollution in Henley will also be strictly monitored, leading up to the start of the trial scheme on January 24 and then compared with results once it is in place.

A Henley vicar has expressed his sadness over a break-in at his church and the theft of equipment worth £800. The Rev David Pritchard, rector of St Mary’s Church, said thieves walked into the church between Tuesday and Thursday last week, broke into a storeroom and stole a bottle of wine that would have been used for communion, a security camera and two microphone receivers. He described the theft as “a sad reflection on the way people live now”.

A £1,000 reward is being offered for the capture and conviction of vandals who attacked a number of large haystacks. The owner of a local hay and straw merchants is offering the money after a spate of attacks on his haystacks over the past few months.
