THERE were grave doubts as to what the weather would be on Wednesday on the occasion of the annual show in connection with the Henley and District Agricultural Association. Fortunately, the day proved fine and the heavy rain of the night before caused no discomfort on account of the gravel subsoil of the showground carrying off all the moisture.

On Tuesday evening, the Henley fire brigade, under Captain F Betts, at the invitation of Mr and Mrs Rossiter, paid a visit to Calleva Hall, where they engaged in hose and escape drill. The pupils at the school entered enthusiastically into the undertaking, many of them making the journey down the chute two or three times.

On Saturday afternoon the children of members of the Henley branch of the Reading Operative Society were entertained at the town hall. The expenses were met from the small profits made at the several whist drives which have been held. It was hoped to have had a fete but circumstances would not allow it. It was therefore decided to give the children an indoor treat and a party was held for upwards of 200 assembled at the town hall.
