ABOUT 90 Henley people spent last week as guests of French families in Falaise in Normandy, the town with which Henley is to form a twinning alliance next month. Henley Symphony Orchestra gave its first foreign concert in the old church of St Gervais. The Falaisians were able to get a clearer idea of what Henley is like through a series of mounted photographs that were displayed in the town hall.

A badly injured woman was trapped in her Mini for more than 30 minutes after she was involved in a crash on the Henley to Marlow road on Monday. Judy Owen, from Frieth, was finally freed by Henley firefighters and taken to Battle Hospital in Reading with head and leg injuries. Her condition is described as fairly satisfactory. The collision with a Wolseley 1800, driven by Mr John Jack Harley, of the administrative staff college, took place by Fawley Court Farm at about 1.30pm.

A first floor flat at Baltic Court in Thames Side, Henley, was severely damaged by fire in the early hours of Thursday last week. The flat is occupied by Mrs Isabel Newson, who was treated for shock. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.
