THREE new war memorials to Henley’s “forgotten” servicemen are to go ahead thanks to a grant. The Heritage Lottery Fund has awarded £8,200 to the Lest We Forget project, which now needs only another £3,300 in donations from the community. It means the 6ft by 4ft glass plaques should be in place at the town hall, St Mary’s Church and Holy Trinity Church in time for the centenary of the start of the First World War on August 4 next year.

About 1,300 people attended Henley Round Table’s 40th annual fireworks display at Swiss Farm on Saturday night. BBC Radio Berkshire presenter Andrew Peach led the countdown, accompanied by his two children. Windy conditions meant that some of the larger fireworks could not be set off for safety reasons.

The first defibrillator has been donated to a Henley school as part of the Millie’s Dream appeal. Rupert House School in Bell Street received the lifesaving device during a special assembly on Monday. It comes just six weeks after Sarah Roberts, 44, of King’s Road, launched the campaign to raise £15,000 to equip 10 schools with a defibrillator.
