READERS will remember that in connection with Messrs Lusted and Jenner’s whist drives, they generously set aside the proceeds of four drives to provide a treat for the children of the unemployed. This came off on Friday when 150 enjoyed a meal at the town hall and was a great success. Mr Lusted decided that children who had lost their fathers should be included and also the children from the Belmont and Radnor homes.

A successful dance took place at the town hall on Monday evening on behalf of the restoration fund of the Chantry House. There were more than 180 people present. The front of the stage had been most effectively decorated and cosy corners had been made on the landing. Harold Mead’s Weowna Band, supplemented by a saxophonist and banjoist, performed excellently.

Sir Henry Rew, who unsuccessfully contested the Henley division of Oxfordshire on two occasions, has declined to become prospective Liberal candidate for South Oxfordshire at the next election. The fact that Sir Henry was unlikely to oppose Captain Reginald Terrell, the sitting member, was made public a fortnight ago, so his decision creates no surprise.
