A PUBLIC meeting took place at the town hall on Thursday last week. It was in celebration of the centenary of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution and to inaugurate a branch of the institution in Henley. Prior to the gathering, the Henley Town Band kindly discoursed a programme of music outside the hall.

Practice for the Boat Race, which is to be rowed on April 5, continues, Oxford being at Marlow and Cambridge at Henley. There was not a great deal of wind when Cambridge resumed their practice and the conditions were ideal for rowing, especially when the crew had their row from Marsh Lock to the bottom of Temple Island. Nearly an hour was devoted to tubbing in pairs by the coach Haig Thomas.

An application was made to the Henley borough bench by Mrs Bowers, of Ye Old Bell Inn, for permission to open on the afternoons of market days. Supt Westie said there was no need for it as there was no accommodation at the inn for putting up vehicles. The bench decided to grant the application, the permission being restricted to persons attending the market.
