Pangbourne Rotary Club

Pangbourne Rotary Club

MEMBERS of Pangbourne Rotary Club were joined by friends, including charity partner Charlotte Wilshire, from Brookfields School, to litter pick along the river in Caversham on Saturday, June 22.

We were joined by a special guest, BBC South Today weather presenter Alexis Green, and were filmed for one of her “Where am I?” features.

In her report for the programme Alexis showed the beauty of the area and spoke about the BBC’s connection with Caversham Park.

She also featured vox pops with people saying what a delight it was to live in Caversham and how clean and tidy it was — cut to the litter pickers, led by our club’s environment champion Les Jones.

Les told how concern for the environment was part of Rotary’s ethos of service to the community.

The team collected 30 bags of litter in just two hours — a magnificent effort — and even found fresh litter in areas they had cleared on their way back to their start point.

The item ended with them all shouting “Pick it up and bin it”.

It was clear that the peaceful and clean beauty of Caversham owes much to the public-spirited fellowship of people like the Rotarians and their friends.
