RESIDENTS of Westleigh Drive in Sonning Common held a community barbecue.
The coronation event kicked off at about 12.30pm as more than a dozen adults and their children set themselves up with tables and chairs outside their houses.
They had put up bunting and had used union flags as table cloths while each household brought with them items of food and drink to share.
Organiser Helen Coyne said: “A lot of people were away but we decided to hold a street party as we did one for the Queen’s platinum jubilee last year. The King’s coronation was a good excuse for another one.
“Everyone brought some bits and pieces to share and some burgers to put on a barbecue, which my husband cooked.
“The kids were all playing in the gardens and up and down the road chasing each other with swords and guns. There was quite an age range, from five to 14. It was quite a low-key social gathering as we were all mainly chatting about life and what people do for jobs and that kind of thing because, as neighbours, while you say ‘hello’ you don’t always have the time to stop and chat.”
Mrs Coyne also said that there were a couple of incidents of people ignoring the road closure boards, with a motorcycle driving down the road too fast and a car even hitting the temporary barrier.
