Golfers raise £5,800 for charity

Golfers raise £5,800 for charity

A GROUP of older members of Henley Golf Club have raised £5,811 for Parkinson’s UK.

They all belong to the Red and White Wine Elderly Gentlemen’s Golfing Society, or RAWW EGGS, which is so-called as they consider their wine after a round of golf just as important as the game itself.

They raised the money over the past year from donations in the form of “fines” for minor misdemeanours, such as letting a phone ring or a trolley run away, and an auction of donated items at their Christmas lunch.

Sarah Jones, community fundraiser for Parkinson’s UK Thames Valley, who was presented with a cheque, said: “I want to say a huge thank-you to everyone in RAWW EGGS for their incredible and ongoing support of the charity.

“The money raised will make real difference in providing vital services and funding Parkinson’s research.”

Group organiser Willie York and his “Consigliere” Michael Herriot thanked members who paid their fines and donated items for the auction as well as businesses that donated prizes, Shiplake Butchers, the Baskerville Arms, Southern Plant, Henley Hawks and Mill Ride, Clandon Regis, Temple, Calcot Park, East Berkshire, Sand Martins and the Spa at the Springs golf clubs.
