VOLUNTEERS who came forward to help run Sonning Common library have started their training.
Sixty-five people responded to an appeal made by the library in March following a 50 per cent cut to its staff budget made by Oxfordshire County Council.
Library manager Rosemary Dunstan, whose role has been retained, said: “We were gratified with the response. The training will have finished by mid-August so that volunteers can be in place before the start of the new school year.”
The library will continue to be open to the public 25 hours a week and 10.5 hours a week to Sonning Common Primary School.
A member of staff will always be on duty when the library is open, supported by volunteers.
