RBWM leader unveils new year cabinet shake-up as part of ‘improvement journey’

The Royal Borough council leader has announced a cabinet reshuffle to support the next phase of its ongoing ‘improvement journey’.

The changes, which took effect in the new year, see several councillors assume revised portfolios aimed at improving service delivery, financial sustainability and outcomes for residents.

Councillor Adam Bermange now has responsibility for adult services and his existing remit for planning and governance.

The move is intended to link planning decisions with meeting diverse community needs and creating healthier places.

Councillor Chris Moriarty has joined the cabinet as lead member for asset management, corporate services and transformation.

His role will focus on improving efficiency across council services and ensuring better value for residents.

Housing delivery and strategy have been brought together with health under Cllr Catherine Del Campo’s updated portfolio.

The change will support social housing provision and efforts to tackle homelessness, while ensuring housing development benefits local communities and meets demand.

The move follows a previously approved transformation programme aimed at improving housing delivery and reducing financial pressures.

Councillor Mark Wilson will continue as lead member for performance and will also take on responsibility for neighbourhood and leisure services.

This includes addressing issues such as litter, graffiti and fly-tipping, as well as improving parks and leisure facilities across the borough.

The reshuffle enables Cllr Richard Coe to focus on public protection, including licensing, environmental health and community safety, while also exploring options for community governance.

Council leader Councillor Simon Werner said: “We have done so much to fix the mess we have inherited, but we cannot be complacent. 

“This new cabinet is determined to continue the great work of making the Royal Borough financially sustainable - while also focusing on creating a borough of safer, greener and cleaner communities, with opportunity for all.”
