School’s green plan

SOLAR panels are set to be installed on the roof of a Henley school.

Trinity primary in Vicarage Road has been given a £4,000 grant towards the cost of the panels by the town council’s climate emergency working group.

The council’s planning committee has recommended approval.

Councillor Michelle Thomas said: “It’s good for the environment and is going to bring their bills down and, as you know, schools don’t have much money. We really hope that other schools follow in this regard.”

Councillor Laurence Plant welcomed the initiative but questioned why the town’s other three state primaries had not received a grant.

Deputy clerk Cath Adams said: “Part of the idea of giving this funding to Trinity is that it would be used as an exemplar school to encourage others.

“I know that quite a lot of the other schools have looked at solar panels but I think Badgemore had issues with shading, so it just wasn’t viable to have solar panels.

“The climate emergency working group is very keen to encourage further energy-saving measures around schools.”
