AN hotel in Henley has received the top food hygiene rating.
The Relais Henley in Hart Street received five stars, which means overall standards are “very good”, under the Scores on the Doors Scheme.
Officers from South Oxfordshire District Council’s environmental health team visited the premises on March 7.
They rated the hotel “good” in each of the three categories of food hygiene and safety, structural compliance and confidence in management.
Earlier this year, award-winning chef Dominic Chapman opened Restaurant Dominic Chapman in the site of the former Clipper restaurant at the hotel.
Relais Henley is Grade II listed and was previously known as the Red Lion Hotel. It was renamed in 2021 as part of a £3 million refurbishment.
A restaurant at The Henley College also received five stars.
Compass Chartwells runs the facility at the college’s Deanfield campus and was also inspected on March 7.
Inspectors said that structural compliance was “very good” and rated its food hygiene and safety and confidence in management as “good”.
Five stars have also been awarded to Cygnets of Henley, a nursery based in the grounds of Valley Road School, the Côte restaurant in Bell Street, the Cheesy Grape bar in Market Place, the Giggling Squid restaurant in Hart Street, the Tesco supermarket in Reading Road, Gillotts School, Radish at Albert Court in Reading Road, the Lashbrook House nursing home in Mill Road, Shiplake, and the Imma bakery in Stoke Row.
The Rowing Room café at the River & Rowing Museum in Mill Meadows received a four-star rating, meaning the overall rating is “good”. The Three Horseshoes pub in Reading Road also scored four stars.
Costa coffee in Duke Street, Henley, the Hart Street Tavern in Hart Street, and the Shiplake Butcher in Northfield Road, Lower Shiplake, received three stars, meaning “generally satisfactory” in all areas.
