Noticeboards installed in bus shelter detailing history of village

Noticeboards installed in bus shelter detailing history of village

TWO new noticeboards have been installed at a former bus stop in Ewelme.

The boards cost about £1,000 and were funded by a grant from South Oxfordshire District Councillor Andrea Powell.

The two notice boards in High Street, feature information about the history of the village.

David Solomon, who chairs the parish council, said: “We have had to wait until we got the roof repaired, which was from a different source of money and so it did drag on a bit.

“The new roof was paid for by the parish council funds, we put village history information on the boards and there is new information appearing all the time. It is excellent and I am very pleased the parish council is delighted with them.”

Cllr Powell said: “I have been told that there are plenty of people who have been seen stopping and looking at them. We choose to do it because Ewelme is such an interesting and historic village and has got an awful lot of information to share.

“There are a lot of visitors, particularly with all the new housing in the area from places near Benson. They are discovering Ewelme for the first time.

“Ewelme Parish Council recently invested in a new roof for the bus shelter so that it could be put to some useful purpose for the benefit of the local community. Buses no longer stop here but it's right in the heart of the village and can provide interesting and helpful information on local history, walking routes and other features.

“We were pleased to provide a small grant to help the parish council acquire permanent display boards and to give residents and visitors alike something to help them enjoy their time in Ewelme.”
