KEITH STENNING, Oxfordshire County Council’s area highway steward, told a meeting of Henley Town Council’s traffic advisory committee on Tuesday that a vehicle-activated sign should be in place by Easter and a bus shelter would also be installed, subject to consultation with residents.
He agreed to submit a report detailing why the application for the crossing failed at the request of deputy mayor Stefan Gawrysiak.
The unused cash allocation for the Marlow Road crossing could be used by Henley Town Council to fund a crossing elsewhere.
The county council is due to carry out a speed assessment in Greys Road to determine the need for a crossing. However, councillors have agreed to postpone speed and pedestrian surveys in King’s Road until the next round of funding.
The town council says a zebra crossing is needed at the town hall end of the road due to the redevelopment of Townlands Hospital.
Mr Stenning reminded the committee that crossings had to be approved by the county council and should be justified on safety grounds.
