HENLEY Town Council’s reputation may have been damaged by the way it handled the procurement process for its refurbishment of the toddler play area in Mill Meadows.
A review of the process found that it “did not treat the contractors well”. The £130,000 contract to refurbish the facility was awarded to Danish company Kompan in May.
But the council’s toddler working group had previously recommended that Play and Leisure, of Cheshire, be awarded the contract because it was concerned the equipment provided by Kompan could take longer to repair as the replacement parts are not made in the UK.
Kompan disputed some of the group’s conclusions and the council agreed to reconsider.
The town council’s financial planning and scrutiny group also found that plans for the play area turned into a “full-scale replacement” and saw the initial budget increase from £30,000 to £130,000.
